But I suppose I can't get away with saying "nothing" now.
So, if I had to say, I would say I've learned:
That the queer/drag community exists in Edmonton to an extent I never dreamed of,
That there are novels that are actually entertaining that take place in Edmonton outside of Tom Clancy's Endwar. Which I haven't actually read, but hey, Tom Clancy.
That despite Blogger's user-friendly-ness, which is certainly better for large groups of people, I'd still take Livejournal over it any day, myself,
And hopefully, that my fellow students and professor are kind and generous people who'll forgive me for being the mildest bit late with this post.
And probably some other things that I've forgotten at the moment.
Livejournal gets a pretty bad rap for being home to angsty teenagers, but it's actually my favourite blogging platform, too! I think the structure of it -- the great threaded comments system, which you can't really find anywhere else -- really encourages actual discussion, rather than just soap box speechifying.

ReplyDeleteI never realized how much I enjoyed LJ until I started this one. I must've spent a full minute looking for a reply button for comments before I realized there wasn't one. And I'm just like "But how will they know I replied to them?" The answer? THEY WON'T. Sadness.
Not to mention I would love to have a friends page for this, rather than checking every individual blog. And the fact that I can't do HTML in comments drives me nuts.
And I swear I'm done. ^^"
Thanks for the Live Journal shout out! Yes, there is an infestation of overly emotional youth creeping around there but it's still a great blog site!
ReplyDeleteI was also met with the surprise regarding Edmonton's gay/drag community. It's really interesting that these underground communities do exist with barely anyone knowing about them. I'm really enjoying learning about them as well as other views of this city.
One of my unrealized reading week plans was to get to know Live Journal ... (one of them). I like the features you describe here. I also love that your mom used to ask you what you learned every day. Pressure?? - but still, very cool.
